It's Medal night and I've made my pick
February 03, 2009

Mitchell Johnson is my pick tonight. If I was a betting man I'd put my money on him to scoop the Allan Border medal after his great all-round year.
The Allan Border medallist generally has had a strong and consistent year in all forms of the game and after Mitchell's performances, particularly in Test cricket, I think he is a strong chance of winning the top prize and the Test award as well.
I sent Mitchell at text message this morning and asked him if he had his speech ready.
He had a laugh and said he thought he was no chance in typically humble fashion but he's definitely my pick.
To be chosen by your peers, the umpires, and those that watch the game, as the AB Medallist, is the biggest compliment available to a player. Far from adding pressure it gives you confidence and lifts you every time you play.
This season obviously hasn't been a fruitful one for me and winning the Medal again will be something I target when I can finally get back in to it in 2009.

Ricky Ponting is the best man to judge whether he needs a rest or not. He knows his body better than everyone else.
Having Ricky fit is obviously the best thing for the Australian team and if it's been decided he needs a rest it is completely justified.
It's a very personal decision and it's not really for others to comment on.

The team will be disappointed over their first up loss to NZ.
I know the fighting spirit the team has and they will be keen to get back on the park and get a confidence boosting win under their belts
