Australia's Tom Slingsby has won the Laser class gold medal at the Olympic sailing regatta in Weymouth.

Slingsby secured victory after finishing the medal race ahead of the only other man who could have clinched the gold, Cypriot Pavlos Kontides.

It's Australia's second gold medal at the London Games and the first to be won by an individual Australian athlete.

Kontides took the silver and Sweden's Rasmus Mygren took bronze.
