Unfair attacks

The moment Dane Swan won his first Brownlow medal with a record 34 votes, social media was flooded with updates and posts about his girlfriend.
And the majority of them were none too friendly I might add.
In fact the night that sees the game's highest individual honour awarded has become more about the fairer sex than the prestige that is our best and fairest.
Every year the media outlets have on a steady incline reported on the 'WAGs' in regard to how they have scrubbed up for the night.
It leads one to ponder whether an award for the best dressed should be more heralded.
The papers are filled the following day with spreads, rating how these young women looked.
It's downright ridiculous and I'll tell you why.
Firstly I have no problem with the girls getting a lovely photo published.
If they look fantastic and glittery, then why not, as obviously the girls have spent hours getting ready.
The fake tan, getting the hair dyed, the diamonds, shoes.
It can be an expensive and lengthy exercise but to rate them out of 10, for me, is just disgraceful.
These girls are not all the stereotype we like to think of them.
They can be intelligent, independent and like most woman self conscious about the way they look.
Agreed some can be questioned at times but can't we all?
The rating itself really should be reserved for the dress makers shouldn't it?
Most of the women are given these dresses for free to wear on the night as promotion for brands and if the dress given to you isn't the best, look out.
Then there was social media on Monday night.
I really did feel sorry for Swanny's partner and hope that she did not read them but I can guarantee some of it will get back to her.
I know from personal experience when my wife was given a shocking review damaging it can be to a girl's psyche.
It is very close to cyber bullying and the print media also have a lot to answer for.
I think we should get back to enjoying the count.
Let's enjoy the fashion side of it but somehow curb the desire to tee off on these ladies by their sides.
Maybe she was nervous last night and didn't know where to look but at the end of the day that's Dane's partner and we should respect that.
Congratulations to Swan on a tremendous year.
He truly deserved the medal and really has been the AFL's most consistent performer for three years now.
This weekend's Grand Final promises to be a true clash of the titans.

The Footy nominees should be the stars of the program, not their wives or significant others. Granted, the wives and significant others do sacrifice for the professional players, but in the final analysis, it is the players' efforts and skills that are being recognized and honored.

ReplyThe women at the brownlow are all a bunch of @#$%s!
ReplyI'd like to see the Brownlow rating survive without these wannabe fake women dominating the first half hour!....Surely noone has the limited brain cells to actually watch the Brownlow count!...Very smart of the AFL to build up the persona of the Brownlow like the Emmy's!.....Money...money...money!!!
ReplyI don't even agree with the networks giving so much air-time to the Brownlow in the first place. Other sports are much more fun to watch than football and train harder than footballers. But if I was to watch it, then they should get rid of the red carpet and not be allowed to have their wives/girlfriends there. It's about the players' achievements, not their partners. Hell, they're all gay anyway, so if people want to keep the red carpet, then they should allow the guys to wear some good men's fashion again, instead of the "tux-only" rule that Brownlow officials made. There's something called change-rooms. They're there for a reason. Use...
ReplyLook....I havnt seen any negative feedback from the Brownlow but we have to admit the majority of these girls are wanna be models, actors, singers etc....just trying to enhance their career......I feel somewhat sorry for these country footballers falling for the gorgeous ill intentioned wannabe! Bring back the sincere home grown footballer that plays for their HOME TOWN & fall's in love with the local girl next door!!!.......Its all about the money now!!!....says Jesse J!!!.....bring back REAL footy & REAL woman!!!
Reply... a message to those in beautiful land, "with the good, comes some bad, live with it! PS: I think Swan's girlfriend is a stunner btw, what's more, she was obviously very proud of the man she loves, get over yourselves, you're just jealous you dont have the same.. OnYa Swannie, you deserve the medal "and the girl" :)
Replyshock horror, people rating people, this kind of behaviour has been around for decades, centuries even. but when someone says something mean about someone less fortunate, about someone that hit all the ugly branches on the way down or is a little left of the ordinary (what is ordinary btw?) nothing is mentioned?! the truth is, people are rated by their looks, you cannot get past that, take a look at the rich/famous, TV/ Movie personalities, certainly the majority rules there, most "beautiful" some a little dumb or even dumber (Buffalo wings?! WT??) but still beautiful and "make it", it is what "the public" want, what they read, listen to, watch... a...
