Finals still the goal for Port

Port Adelaide hasn't given up on playing finals but admits its main focus is giving its fans some happiness when it tackles North Melbourne at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.

To secure eighth spot, the Power needs the Hawks to narrowly beat the Bombers and then must pummel the Kangaroos to boost its flagging percentage.

It's almost a futile number-crunching exercise and given Port's up and down form is the unlikeliest scenario to emerge from the weekend's games.

However captain Dominic Cassisi said the team would play the season out until the end.

"We are still approaching that we want to win the game, it's very important to us, it's important for us to finish off the year if it is our last game or not," he said.

"I think we'll prepare for North Melbourne like any other game and go out there to try and win. At the end of the day we want to win and if it gets us enough percentage to make the finals that's all well and good."

"We are just focusing on getting our preparation right for the week to give us an opportunity to give some happiness to our fans in the last game of the year."

Meanwhile Cassisi was forced to defend Mark Williams again, saying the Power coach had the support of his players - despite their disappointing efforts since he signed a new two-year deal back in July.

"Every player that spoke to the media (back then) came out and was 100 percent behind Choco and that's no different. We understand we are going through a tough phase at the moment, our performances have been poor and we look to address it, but Choco is definitely the man for the job," he said.

"We are here living and breathing every day and we know the harmony at the club is really good and we are working together as a group."

"People can form their own opinions from the outside but internally we'll know what's going on."

Cassisi also said from his observations the perceived friction between Williams and Power ceo Mark Haysman wasn't a reality.

"Every time we've seen Haysey and Choco together they seem fine and have a laugh and get along really well. As a captain I've spent time with both of them on different occasions and their relationship is really good," he said.
