Adelaide have surprisingly withdrawn their first two selections for Thursday's AFL National Draft as a 'gesture of goodwill' in regards to the Kurt Tippett scandal.
The Crows will front a commission hearing on Friday week to answer a raft of serious charges relating to potential draft tampering and alleged third-party payments to Tippett outside the salary cap.
With the potential to be banned from future drafts, Adelaide are hoping to try and minimise their sanctions by withdrawing picks 20 and 54 from the draft.
Chairman Rob Chapman described the decision as a 'common-sense initiative that is in the club's overall best interests' and also confirmed the Crows will be redrafting fall guy Nick Joyce in the pre-season draft.
"We are in ongoing discussions with the AFL," Chapman said.
"This gesture forms part of those discussions and is made in good faith.
"There are pressing deadlines with the draft and our priority is to see Nick Joyce back on our main list. This will now happen at the pre-season draft.
"So we see this as a pragmatic gesture made in good faith. It's all about seeking the best overall outcome for the Adelaide Football Club."
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson will recommend to the AFL commission to take Adelaide's actions into consideration at next week's hearing.
"The AFL welcomes the initiative from the Adelaide Crows Football Club in light of the decision by the AFL commission to postpone the hearing into the Tippett matter until the end of next week, beyond the 2012 Draft," Anderson said.
The Crows' first pick in the draft will now be 62, while they also have picks 81 and 95.
