Adelaide Crows and Kurt Tippett will face the AFL Commission next week to answer charges of draft tampering and alleged salary cap breaches.
The Crows are in hot water after it was revealed last month that a contract Tippett signed in 2009 contained an illegal exit clause that promised the key forward would be traded to the club of his choice at the end of the 2012 season.
The agreement also allegedly involved non-disclosure of player payments worth a reported $200,000.
Tippett faces suspension or even deregistration while the Crows risk a hefty fine and/or the loss of draft picks.
The commission has scheduled a meeting for next Monday which could last two days.
Tippett will be fighting for his immediate playing future after his trade to Sydney was blocked by the AFL pending the investigation.
If cleared to play in 2013, Tippett would have to delist himself from the Crows and nominate for the national draft, where he would become a prime target for Greater Western Sydney.
If found guilty, Tippett would become the first AFL player deregistered for undisclosed third-party payments since Brownlow Medallist Greg Williams was banned for 11 weeks in 1992 for his kick-backs in Sydney.
