Western Bulldogs veteran Daniel Cross will have to wait until next season to play his 200th game after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
Cross dislocated the AC joint in his right shoulder when driven into the ground by St Kilda forward Beau Wilkes during the Saints 76-point victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday.
Wilkes will come under scrutiny from the match review panel for the tackle but its Cross who will bear the brunt of the pain after the Bulldogs confirmed on Monday that he needs season-ending shoulder surgery, leaving the 29-year-old stranded on 197 games.
Bulldogs football manager James Fantasia said he expects Cross to recover from the disappointment.
"Daniel is a quality person and the consummate professional when it comes to his body and the way he prepares," Fantasia said.
"We expect that from him again with his rehabilitation this time around."
