Greater Western Sydney midfielder Stephen Coniglio will miss a month of football, after sustaining a thumb injury.
Coniglio, who was taken with pick two in the 2011 AFL Draft, had surgery this week to fix a damaged tendon in the thumb on his right hand.
GWS football manager Graeme Allan praised Coniglio as one of the Giants' best players in the club's debut season so far.
"Stephen has had an excellent season so far and is one of four Giants players who've already been nominated for the NAB AFL Rising Star," Allan said.
"We look forward to him making a full recovery and being available to return to the side later next month."
Coniglio has been a key part of GWS' engine room, ranking fifth at the club for disposals, fifth in centre clearances and third for inside-50s.
Should his recovery go to plan, he could return for the Giants' round 15 clash with Hawthorn.
The Western Australian teenager won a NAB Rising Star nomination in round seven in GWS' historic first win against the Gold Coast Suns.
