Cheney was selected at pick No.53 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft and spent his first season at Sandringham in the VFL. He is best suited to a role in defence and is generally a reliable kick. He will spend most of 2009 developing his game in the VFL but may be introduced into the team at some stage this season.
