Meesen has failed to make an impact at AFL level and has played just the two games since being a top-10 draft pick for Adelaide in 2004. He was traded to Melbourne at the end of 2007 looking for more opportunities and spent last year playing for Sandringham in the VFL. With the departure of Jeff White, Meesen has the opportunity to forge his way into the team and will need to step up in 2009 if he is to remain on the Melbourne list.
