Coming into the 2008 season, Lucas was Essendon's most durable player, having missed just three games in the previous five years. He was sorely missed by the Bombers with the classy half-forward playing just nine games last season - the lowest return of his career. He played another eight games for the season before back spasms and on-going problems with his knee finally ended his year early. He still managed to have an impact though scoring 18 goals. He may be played closer to goals this season as his career draws to a close.
