Monfries has been expected to take the next step for a few years now and finally in 2008 he showed some encouraging signs. He was given a lot more opportunities last season and played 19 games to take his career tally to 72 over four years. Taken with pick No.14 in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft, he has played primarily as a forward early in his career but last season was given some time in the midfield. He capped of his most consistent season to date finishing sixth in the clubs B&F.
