Brown failed to play a game in his first season with Collingwood, but managed to play 23 of a possible 24 games in 2008. He was Collingwood's No.1 full-back for the majority of the season and he first came to prominence when he kept Matthew Pavlich goalless in Round 1. He played the second most minutes at the club but he was a very defensive minded player averaging eight disposals per game - the lowest of any player to play 20 or more games last season.
