Maxwell becomes the 45th captain of the Collingwood taking over the job from the retired Scott Burns. He averaged a career high 13 disposals per game last season, playing mainly as a floater across the half-back line. He also did some tagging roles in the midfield during the season, with his best job being done on Crow Scott Thompson in the elimination final when he kept him to just 12 disposals in 80 minutes.
