Brown had never missed more than three games in a season before last year, but his form deserted him in 2008 playing just nine games for the season, failing to string more than four in a row. He has played at both ends of the ground during his career, but he has been drafted to the Magpies to hold down the key defensive post left vacant after the retirement of Shane Wakelin.
