Johnstone finished ninth in the Brisbane B&F in his first season since crossing from Melbourne. He played 18 games at an average of 19 disposals per game. The move up north was supposed to free up Johnstone given the quality of the Brisbane midfield, however he was tagged on occasions which highlights the respect he has from opposition clubs. Despite the perception of him being one of the elite kicks of the competition, his efficiency by foot of 62% was the lowest of his career and rated as below average.
