Black had his sixth top three B&F finish last season finishing second behind Jonathan Brown. Add the 2002 Brownlow Medal, the 2003 Norm Smith Medal and three All-Australian selections to that and his record reads as one of the very best of the current AFL players. Black is one of the elite inside players of the competition consistently ranking high in clearances and contested possessions. In 2008 he won the second-most contested possessions as well as the equal second-most clearances of any player during the H&A rounds. In every season between 2000-08 he has averaged over 20 disposals per game with his average of 26 in 2008 a career high.
