Clouston was a gifted athlete who represented his school in cricket, soccer, water polo and swimming. He has been elevated from the rookie lost in 2009 after playing two AFL games last season which included 13 disposals and 11 marks in his Round 22 game against the Swans. He has been used as a defender and forward, but he spent a lot of time up forward for the Suncoast Lions in 2008, booting 31 goals in his 17 games.
