Mackenzie is a strong bodied defender who spent most of last season playing for Claremont in the WAFL. With the Eagles desperate for a key defender, Mackenzie forced his way into the Eagles line-up playing the final seven games of the season. With Darren Glass struggling with niggling injuries, Mackenzie played on some big name opponents and showed enough to suggest that he is more than capable of holding down a key defensive post. Entering his third season at AFL level, Mackenzie will be looking to add to his eight career games in 2009.
