From 2006-08, Cahill scored 182 in goals in three levels of SANFL (Under-17's, 19's & Reserves), averaging four goals per match. He is a strong marking key forward, averaging three contested marks per game across his junior career. He led South Australia in goals and contested marks at the 2008 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, booting 10 goals in his five appearances.
