Laurie played all five games for Western Australia in the 2008 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships performing well averaging 15 disposals and four marks per game. Despite standing at only 184cm, he played mainly as a key defender, but his versatility also enables him to play in the midfield. He is powerfully built for his age and is more than capable of stepping into the AFL ranks.
