Melbourne's longest-serving captain and all-time leading goalkicker, Neitz had a poor 2007 season where he scored just 26 goals in 15 games. It was the lowest goals return in a season for Neitz since 2000 when he was used in defence, as he struggled with injuries and consistency in a side that finished 14th. Neitz has booted 50 goals in a season on five occasions and is the third-highest goalkicker of all current players.
