Bate is an exciting young member of the Melbourne side, playing 33 games in the past two seasons and finishing third in the Demons' B&F in 2007. At 191cm, Bate is capable of holding down a key position at either end of the ground, however has also shown an ability to go into the midfield and have an impact in his career to date. He looks suited to a roaming forward role however, where his long kicking and strong hands make him a threat to the opposition.
