Morton was taken with the Hawks' third pick at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft (33rd overall). As a likely key forward he was given time to develop in the VFL, playing eight games for Box Hill at senior level, before being dropped to reserves level for his final two games of the season. He is a proven goalkicker, booting 39 goals in 16 WAFL colts games in 2006.
