Dawson fell out of favour at the Hawks in 2007 after playing 12 games the previous year and experiencing one of the toughest apprenticeships of any youngster. Well known for being left on Anthony Rocca as he kicked eight goals in a game early in 2006, Dawson failed to make an appearance at AFL level last year, instead playing 17 games for Box Hill in the VFL.
