Mitchell is clearly the AFL's most consistent clearance player in the past five years and is one of the competition's leading inside midfielders. As one of the competition's elite ball winners for three seasons now, Mitchell's in-and-under work went a long way to helping the Hawks climb the ladder in 2007. After finishing in the top six of the B&F in each of the past five seasons, Mitchell was appointed Hawthorn's captain for 2008 - an outstanding achievement considering how hard he had to fight to win a spot on an AFL senior list.
