Ottens silenced the critics in 2007, producing his best season since his All-Australian year of 2001. His numbers last season were easily his best in his third season since arriving at Geelong, and he remained one of the most damaging ruckman pushing forward with 21 goals in his 22 matches. Often maligned for his performances in recent seasons, Ottens' outstanding effort in Geelong's 2007 preliminary final win over Collingwood was crucial to getting the Cats over the line.
