Harley returned from two injury-interrupted seasons in 2005-06 to lead Geelong to the 2007 Premiership, producing easily his best season since 2004. Proving to be one of the games best readers of the play from defence, Harley averaged almost three marks from opposition kicks per game and grabbed 30 contested marks in his 17 outings last season. He was rarely beaten by his opponent and was one of the AFL's most effective spoilers, forming part of the Cats' solid and outstanding key defensive unit with Matthew Egan and Matthew Scarlett.
