Mooney finally came of age in 2007, settling in a position at full-forward and producing a career-best season. Named as one of Geelong's nine All-Australian members, Mooney became the first Cat since Gary Ablett Sr in 1996 to boot 60 goals in a season, totalling 67 in Geelong's 25 games. He stayed closer to goal than ever before and broke numerous games open in first quarters. He not only hurt the opposition on the scoreboard himself but was also unselfish enough to average almost two score assists per game.
