Varcoe played the tricky role of small forward for the Cats in 18 of their 22 H&A games in 2007, but missed out on any finals action. He works very hard to win possession and while he averaged less than a goal per game, he was one of the competitions best at laying pressure on opposition defenders. Despite this, he was Geelong's most unaccountable player, often conceding high amounts of possession to his direct opponent.
