Blake held the back-up ruckman role for Geelong in 22 of the Cats' 25 matches in 2007 and was unlucky to be overlooked for the Grand Final in favour of Steven King. A steady improver in the past three seasons, Blake was initially recruited by the Cats via the Father-Son rule. Blake has a distinct preference for handballing the ball and while he still has a way to go before challenging the best ruckmen in the AFL, King's departure means he should hold his spot as the back-up to Brad Ottens for 2008.
