After a horrific 2006 kidney injury, Lonergan's successful return to VFL football in the second half of last season sees him back on the Cats' senior list for 2008. Demoted to the rookie list for the 2007 season after the injury suffered in Round 21, 2006, Lonergan played 12 VFL games for Geelong including the grand final win where he showed his versatility by booting six goals. He has managed seven senior appearances for the Cats since being drafted in 2002.
