Johnson has failed to play a full season since his debut in 2002, never having played more than 17 games in a season. He played just 12 matches of AFL in 2007 with a further eight at VFL level. He found it tough to break into the settled Cats back-line last season with his spot as a defender to play on the small forwards being taken by Josh Hunt.
