Ling is one of the competition's best stoppers, succeeding in most of his roles on the opposition's No.1 midfielders last season. He was named All-Australian for the first time and finished third in the Geelong B&F, his sixth successive top-four finish. Not only did Ling restrict his opponent each week last season, but he was damaging on the scoreboard, booting 28 goals while conceding just 11. His disposals average dropped below 20 per game for the first time since 2002 as a result of his tight-checking role.
