Black missed five games through injury in 2007 but continued to impress in his sweeping role across the wing and half-back line. In this position he ranked highly at Fremantle in long kicks and rebound 50s after returning from a stint at St.Kilda from 2002-04. His numbers have been solid since then, averaging at least 21 disposals per game in all three seasons and winning the second-most disposals at the club in that time.
