Murphy booted 22 goals in 12 games in 2006 but failed to kick on last season, managing only three goals in seven games. He spent most of 2007 playing for South Fremantle in the WAFL where he scored 46 goals in 14 matches, but could not carry that form into the AFL. In 2006 he showed he was very strong overhead, grabbing 11 contested marks, but there was no sign of that skill last season as he failed to take a contested mark in his seven appearances.
