Gilmore was an interesting choice as a back-up ruckman for the Dockers late in 2007. Standing at 189cm, not surprisingly he struggled in the ruck contests, but was dominant around the ground. In the final seven rounds of the H&A season he ranked second at the club in disposals and inside 50s, picking up a career-high 31 disposals in just 81 minutes against Essendon in Round 19.
