McVeigh had a career-best season in 2007 finishing equal third in Essendon's B&F. He was used as a midfield tagger throughout the season playing on the likes of Peter Bell, Shannon Grant, Luke Power, Gary Ablett and Aaron Davey. Despite performing in these shut-down roles he managed to average career-highs in disposals, contested possessions, uncontested possessions, marks, clearances and inside 50s. His 20 goals was also a career-high as was his 27 score assists (ranked second at the club). He finished with third biggest score impact at the club behind Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas.
