Chartres has been retained on Essendon's rookie list after playing 18 games for the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL last season. He played mainly as a ruckman and was named in the best on eight occasions. At 194cm he will not be tall enough to be a ruckman in the AFL but could be groomed to hold down a key position post in the future.
