Ryder played nine senior games in his debut season but it wasn't until Round 1, 2007 that the football world saw exactly why he was rated so highly as a youngster. He won a NAB Rising Star nomination after finishing with 13 disposals and five marks showing plenty of athleticism across the half back line. He continued that great form throughout the rest of the season and finished with 30 marks from opposition kicks - ranked No.1 at Essendon. He has never been a big ball winner throughout his career as he has never finished with more than 13 disposals in a game.
