Lonergan played one game in 2006 but failed to add to his tally in 2007. He played 12 games for Bendigo last season booting 14 goals and was named in the best on four occasions. Lonergan represented Tassie Mariners at the 2004 & 2005 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and averaged 20 disposals, seven hardball-gets, five clearances and four inside 50s. He is a ball magnet who loves the contested situations and could be a big improver for Essendon in 2008.
