Stanton has inherited the No.5 guernsey, formerly worn by Bomber great James Hird. An ankle injury slowed him down halfway through last season as he was the Bombers leading disposal winner after Round 10, also ranking second in the competition for kicks and uncontested possessions in that time. Despite his injury interruption he still finished the season averaging career-highs in disposals, marks, uncontested possessions and clearances. Stanton is fast becoming one of the best run and carry players in the competition something the Bombers midfield has been crying out for in recent seasons.
