Welsh was used at both ends of the ground last season but, after a career best season in 2006, his numbers took a slight dive last season. He managed 17 games - his fewest in the past five years and finished with fewer disposals per game and a lower disposal efficiency than the previous two seasons. He is a keen surfer and has often stated that if he wasn't playing football he would be a professional surfer.
