Toovey made his debut in Round 3 last season and managed 10 games for the season averaging 11 disposals per game. He was used mainly as a run-with player tagging the likes of Brett Deledio, Shaun Burgoyne, Simon Goodwin and Aaron Davey. He struggled with his kicking however and recorded more ineffective than long kicks across the season. He finished with four goals for the season with three of those coming on debut against Richmond.
