Grigg was taken at pick 19 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft and played five games in his debut season. He improved his output in each game that he played picking up five disposals on debut before finishing with 19 in Round 22 against Melbourne. He recorded the quickest time in the 5m sprint at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft Camp and was named on the wing in the 2006 All-Australian side after the 2006 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships where he represented Vic Country averaging 26 disposals per game.
