Murphy was the No.1 pick at the 2005 NAB AFL Draft and he managed just 13 games in 2006 after a shoulder injury ended his season prematurely. He finished ninth in Carlton's B&F that season averaging 18 disposals per game. He played all 22 games last season and once again averaged 18 disposals, yet failed to poll in the top 10 in Carlton's 2007 B&F count. He had the best free kick differential of any player last season winning 44 free kicks for while giving away just 18. He is handy forward of centre as he finished with the fifth most inside 50s and the equal-most score assists at the club.
