O'hAilpin has been tried in almost every key position on the ground in his short time at Carlton. His early days were spent learning the craft at full-forward, but since then has been used at full-back, centre half-back and in the ruck. He played all 22 games last season conceding 31 goals to his direct opponents throughout the season. O'hAilpin has struggled with his kicking around the field, but his shooting for goal has been quite accurate as he scored 13 goals from 16 scoring shots last season.
