Denis Pagan experimented with Waite in defence for the first time in 2007 and despite spending a lot of time down back he still had enough stints in the forward-line to finish with 28 goals - the third most goals at Carlton. He also conceded plenty to his opponents as his 41 goals conceded were the second most at the club. He played every game for the season for the first time in his career and averaged career-high numbers in disposals, uncontested possessions and rebound 50s.
