Thornton has established himself as the Blues' No.1 defender in the past four seasons despite not always getting the opposition's No.1 forward in 2007. He has proven to be a safe user of the ball, especially in the past four seasons in which time he has hit the target with 89% of disposals. He struggled to contain his opponents last season as he conceded 43 goals - the most at Carlton and the eighth-most in the competition.
