Ackland spent four seasons with Port Adelaide from 2001-04 before crossing over to the Saints for two seasons. Carlton selected him with the No.1 pick at last year's Pre- Season draft with the view that he would fill the role as the club's No.1 ruckman. He played 20 games last season and averaged just nine disposals and three marks per game. Ackland won the hitout at 37% of ruck contests last season - ranked 13th of the top 15 hitout winners and finished with the second most score launches at the club.
